Housekeeping

I thought I would change the mood a bit here, and introduce a rather "highbrow" discussion here at MG.
Let's start off with the question of ...
What is the best remedy that you have for removal of soap scum from a glass shower door?
Seriously! Yes, I know this is a rather boring and mundane topic, but it IS one that is driving me absolutely nuts! After spending hundreds (yes, this is an exaggeration) of dollars on cleaning products, I still cannot get that door clear!
Any comments, remarks, suggestions that you have on the subject would be much appreciated. Help me out!

In other news, Miss Anna Kate's tooth has "tightened up" in its' socket. It IS crooked, but I am just so thankful and happy that it is actually there. I can take the crookedness in her wee little smile; after all it is just a baby tooth! Thanks so much for your kind words and prayers.

Busy, busy days ahead. Days full of starting a new bible study, birthday parties, choir preview practices, and family dinners. Days that remind that these really are the good ol' days.

Happy Friday and
Much Love,

Oh, Jennifer. I have had the very same problem. The last thing I tried was ammonia and a kitchen scrubby - the kind you use on teflon. Make sure the window is open or the fan on. It can get overpowering! Scrub and rinse, then I spray it with that shower rinse stuff, (can't think of the name) It works pretty well, but I'll be interested to see if anyone else has something easier.

Two things have worked for me. The first is using a regular wash cloth. Put some soap on the wash cloth and scrub!! It'll take some time, but it does come off.

The second thing is making a paste of baking soda and water. Once it's pasty (sp?), rub it on with your fingers. Use a circular motion and scrub. This takes longer than using a wash cloth, but seems to do a better job for me.

THE most important thing once you get it off is to clean it EVERY week. I know, I know. It's not fun and you have a billion more important things to do. BUT do you want it to come back? Me neither!!

I can't stand soap scum. So much so that we eventually took the shower doors down and replaced them with a regular shower curtain!!! A GREAT day in my life, indeed!! LOL!!

Mrs. U

Have you ever tried Lime Away? It has worked pretty well for me thus far.

I have nothing to add from Mrs. U's comments, but I would keep a Squeegee in the shower with you and before you get out each time, squeegee the glass. It helps.

Blessings. Oh and good news about the tooth.

I like scrubbing bubbles.

Glad to hear about the tooth!

I have good success using LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Fill up your sink or tub with hot water and a scoop, and then use that to wipe the door down.

(if you have a tub, leave it in there overnight, then drain and it pretty much cleans itself).

I don't do this every week when I clean, just when I need a GOOD deep clean!

I'm so happy to hear that your baby girl is doing better. My youngest dd lost one of her front teeth. She has new shoes on for church, and she was walking kind of funny (she was 2) sure enough she tripped and banged into a chair. ;0( Her tooth has finally come in, at 8. She looks so weird to us to have both her front teeth. lol

There is a product called Scrub Free Soap Scum (there are other Scrub Free products, make sure you get the soap scum one). It means it. Really. I buy it at Wal-Mart. It's pretty cheap. Love, love, love it.

The only downside is that the fumes are really strong. I ventilate well when I use it.

I struggled with this problem for years and bought every cleaning product known to man! It literally drove me crazy because it always looked so gross. My solution: We took the "awful, yucky, soap scummy" door down and put up a shower curtain! Problem solved:)

Great news about the tooth! Thank you Lord!

I use soft scrub with bleach on our glass shower doors and put it on with a non-scratch blue scrubby sponge (very technical name, I know). ; ) I also agree about the squeegee - if you squeegee every day you only have to do the soft scrub deep cleaning about once every week & a half or 2 weeks.

Good luck! Let us know what worked for you so maybe we can try it too. : )

Any cleaner with bleach in it. I use the Tylex or Lysol with bleach and spray a ton on, and then after a good soaking, scrub with the rough side of those two sided sponges. That works for me! GOOD LUCK! I'd love to hear if you find a solution.

Jennifer,

I have nothing to suggest because the ladies have taken the thoughts right out of my head (lol). Great Suggestions! I wanted to say please come and visit me sometimes and leave me a note, I love hearing from you and miss reading your comments. Have A Blessed Day

yAll your commenters made great suggestions. I make sure to get mine really clean using a scrubby sponge with Clorox Cleaner for the bathroom and then I daily spray on a Daily Shower Spray and leave it. Using a squeegee(sp?) after each shower really works too, but my kids tend to walk around with it like it's a toy and then I can't find it.

I'm sorry...you are asking the wrong person in me! Hopefully, some of the other advice will work for you!

But I am so happy to hear about the tooth! YAY! What a relief that must be for you!

Blessings!

HI,

I know this is an old post, but I will tell you what works for me and I have tried a lot of products! I now use CLR, which bothers me a bit because it is not a "green" product. It must be applied with gloves. I use less than the amount advised and it gets my shower door clean, gleaming. I only use it every two weeks and I really dilute it.
On another note, I have been searching your blog looking for a vintage type artist that you had mentioned. I believe you had bought some prints for your daughter's room? Anyway, I can't find the name now and wanted to search for some things for my daughter. Hope you read this! Thanks.
