Winter Beauties...

...From my great-grandmother's "antique" flower collection in the yard. Though she died a few years back, my great-aunt and great-uncle still live in her home. This rambling 100 year old home (which is only about 2 miles from mine) with its' old fashioned flowers is where we gather with extended family for a good-old fashioned Southern meal, or"birthday dinner"one Sunday a month.
We picked these while over there this afternoon. These beautiful flowers that remind me of her... the sweet, perfume-y narcissus and the soft delicate camellia. These little ladies clothed in their winter best are adorning my dining room table now. I think they look just perfect.

Happy Sunday and
Much Love,

PS. For any of you that would like to participate in another "pet naming"~~~~ Click here to help my teenage cousin name his guinea pig.

Camelias are just about my favorite flower in the world. When I was young, we lived in Florida, and we had the most gorgeous camellias. My mother would float the large blossoms in a pretty two-layer glass centerpiece dish filled with a little water.

Can you transplant some of the narcissi and camellias to your house? I wish I had gotten some of the antique roses that bloomed at my grandfather's.

Lindsey,
I don't have one in my yard, but our neighbors do, and there were about 4 of them in the backyard of the house where I grew up.... I HATED them because of all of the shedding leaves that we had to rake when I was a kid. There are several in the backyard of my great-grandmother's house where I got these flowers, and my parents have them in their yard, too. LOVE magnolia blossoms and the way they smell... heavenly!!

I'm so jealous. I have fond memories of picking camelias, azalias and begonias at my grandparents houses. They have passed on and their houses no longer in the family. Enjoy. I wish I could enjoy them with you.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! And yes, they make me (sigh!), think of Spring too! I'm so glad to hear and see how you can enjoy them at this time of year and how they are all the more special because they began with your grandparents planting them! Thank you for sharing them with us, they truly brought a smile to my face!

Hi Jennifer,
I am envious! They are beautiful. My mom lives next door and has beautiful camellias normally, but it needed severe pruning and is not in bloom right now.
I have been visiting here for a while, and I enjoy your posts very much. I am proud to be a southern girl, too!
I'm also a new blogger and have a LOT to learn.:-)
Our son-in-love will be going to Iraq in a few weeks, and I know your husband is already there. I will continue to keep ya'll in our prayers.
Stop in sometime at Kindred Haven, I'm looking forward to making new friends!
