Dressin' up...

Don't you sometimes just long for the days when women used to dress like this? *sigh* I do! This is a picture (well, a copy of one) that my mama gave me this past weekend. It is my great-grandmother (on the left), her daughter (in the middle), and her sister (on the right). They had just gotten out of church (right here in South Mississippi) and it was the 1940s. I just LOVE the hats and gloves! I knew all of these women, and all three were true "ladies" until the day they died. Just makes me kind of wistful, sometimes, for those days. That being said, I STILL dress up to go to the Lord's house, I have been know to wear a hat or two, I love handkerchiefs and I get along splendidly with a pair of high heels. So, I guess I don't have to be so wistful, after all! I can help "carry the torch" to keep femininity alive even in this generation of midriff tops, jeans at church (just a personal ick! for me), and women dressing in their husband's old sloppy clothes. So many thanks to the women in my family, who have always modeled what being a true lady through and through is all about. I admire and love you all.
Happy Tuesday and
Much Love,
Jennifer

I agree with you. Although I am not what some would consider a girly girl I do like to dress up and look nice.

Oh yes, I do wish for those days. Or the long flowing prairie dresses... I especially love the hats and gloves from the 40's and their "pocket book" purses were so tasteful! I am right there with ya on this one!

Jennifer, you are so right! Even though I am a 22 yr old mom. I still believe in looking modest and feminine. It's pretty sad that I can't take my children to Super Walmart on weekends and at night, due to the x-rated clothing people wear. It's young and old. I hope people will learn to respect their bodies and want to keep them sanctified for our God and their husbands. Let'a all pray that by our examples of dress and the way we carry ourselves. People will want to copy our look of modesty. By the way your grandmother and aunt were so lovely! Have a wonderful night with those beautiful kiddos... Love & Prayers, Mrs.Clark

I feel the same way Jennifer. So often I see women out and about and I just wish I could take them home and dress them in something pretty, lol! I'm also a hat lover :)

When I was little my Mama would always wear the most beautiful hats and gloves to church. I thought she was the most beautiful Mama a girl could have. I also remember getting special gloves and patent leather shoes with frilly socks at Easter, it made me feel just like her:) Jeans and tank tops at church??? Double ick!!

Oh, YES! Ever since I was a kid, I have been in love with that era- the 40's in particular! I do wish those days would come back sometimes...and when the men all wore suits and hats on the streets.
Maybe that's one reason I love old movies!
And raising two little girls, I have to really pick and choose from the fashions they even offer them!
*sigh* Anyway, thanks for posting that wonderful photo!
Blessings,
~Tammy

I want to dress like the girl did in the movie The Notebook. Matching hat, gloves, purse....ahhhh!!! If you dressed like that these days people would think you were nuts. I'm working being a little more feminine one day at a time. But today's 105 degree heat did have me in shorts, tee, and flip flops..hair in ponytail, sweatin' like a dog.

Lindsey, I just started wearing skirts and dresses daily two weeks ago. I always did dress nice for church and modest when I wore pants. But when I wear thin(not see through) long skirts, I am much cooler than if I was wearing shorts. There are so many dresses and skirts of light material. To find my skirts/dresses I search Salvation Army/Area Thrift Shops. Yardsales are always cheaper, but you must be sure that the dress/skirt will fit you. It's better sometimes to go to thriftshops so you can try your items on.I am 22 so it was hard at first to find items I liked. But God always led me to the perfect skirt or dress. Some that I would of never worn before. My husband and children have gotten accustomed to me in skirts/dresses and appreciate how feminine I look. I also have been styling my hair in some beautiful victorian era styles. My husband adored the one I did today. Slowly buy your dresses and skirts. When you get a weeks worth, wear them and see how much better you feel! I'm positive after a day or so you'll feel great and look great! Remember that our children remember even the smallest things about us. I hope you have a wonderful and blessed night! Love & Prayers, Mrs.Clark

They look just beautiful Jennifer. Though I'm not a huge hat fan myself, they make my head hot, lol. I like to be feminine too.

The 40's are my favorite era. What a great picture!!! I agree. I really do enjoy being able to tell the difference between men and women without seeing the actual evidence. Thanks.

Gorgeous! Oh, how I long for those days again. I saw a young lady wearing a hat the other day and it made me sigh. Of all the trends coming back into style, I would LOVE to see those looks return! :o)

Oh, I just love that picture. I wish a more modest style would come back. Even if you already dress modest it is hard to find clothes that are not low cut or too short. I have noticed that the longer more fuller skirts are coming back in and I love it..
(sorry for posting so many comments in one day - I am trying to get caught up on my blogging :o)
