Miss Tiggy-Winkle

Our son is in love with a hedgehog.... of the fictional kind! The kind found in Beatrix Potter's sweet old fashioned stories. The kind found in "The Tale of Miss Tiggy-Winkle" (published in 1905). You see, Miss Tiggy-Winkle is a little hedgehog disguised as a washer-woman who is found by our friend Lucie in the sweet tale. We both knew these precious stories as children but we've only recently introducted little Andrew to them, and he is FASCINATED ! ... As we read the aforementioned story before naptime today, his little eyes were as big as saucers, and he kept saying- "Ouch, she will stick me with her needles". We'd never talked to him about hedgehogs before, and so after story time, we had a research session on the little critters. He loved it and chatted away to me until he went to sleep about all the wonderful attributes of hedgehogs. Before drifting away into neverland, he looked at me with big, blue sleepy eyes and said with a sigh- "but mommy I WUV Miss Tiggy-Winkle"... to which I replied "and so we shall visit her again... this time tomorrow." The world of books opens up such wonderful doors in our children's imaginations. Some of my fondest memories are of my mother reading to me. May we never let our children's mind stagnate needlessly from endless hours of senseless programming on television. They deserve more than that... May we never fail them.
Happy Thursday!
Much Love,
Jennifer

Ah how cute! We have all the Beatrix Potter books. There are one or two that I find a bit sinister, I can't remember which ones though.

Thanks for your kind comment on my blog! :o)
